Also another thing I noticed while rewatching RWBY:
While several people have pointed this out already, Ozpin always takes the blame for everything, even things that are not directly his fault: Salem’s curse, the Fall of Beacon, Pyrrha’s death, Gretchen’s death, etc etc.
And Salem, alternatively, places all the blame for her suffering and her heinous actions on the Gods and Ozpin, even though she’s been making all of these terrible decisions herself.
But I just realized that Cinder does the exact same thing as Salem, placing the blame of Roman Torchwick’s death on Ruby rather than herself: “I don’t have time for your misplaced blame, girl. If you want revenge, why don’t you take it up with Little Red?” Thing is, Neo’s blame is not misplaced. It was one of the Grimm Cinder let into the city that killed Roman, not Ruby. Of course, no one but Ruby even knows about that, but it is a rather interesting constant between the villains: all of the world’s horrors are someone else’s fault, not mine. This is pretty normal for bad guys in shows, I just thought it was a cool comparison.
Ozpin constantly takes the blame of all of his past mistakes, while Salem and Cinder constantly shift the blame of their actions onto relatively innocent third parties. What’s really interesting is that the FNDM does the same thing, blaming Ozpin for literally everything that has ever gone wrong ever, when all of that blame should be going to Salem and Cinder, the two who initiated all of the bad things in the series. I guess it’s just more evidence for the ‘the FNDM gives no shits about logic, women = good and men = bad’ folder haha.
