I don’t quite understand the characterization of Connor being an imbecile with how humans work/their emotions/etc. especially the language aspect. The thing he was so diehard about at first (or the whole time depending on how you play) is that Androids COULDN’T do that, naturally, generate that kind of emotional complexity. it was all fake and they were malfunctioning. He designed to catch deviants specifically, yes, but he was made to work alongside humans. He’s also an investigator, interrogator, AND specializing in NEGOTIATION. He doesn’t have a whole lot of ??? when it comes to understanding people.
like he knows he fucked up when he spoiled the game for Hank when he was trying to bond early on, hank didn’t need to tell him about ‘disappointment’
AND LESS WE NOT FORGET:
CONNOR KNOWS THE WORD “BROMANCE” AND USES IT IN A CORRECTLY IRONIC FASHION with devastating sass and confidence
I repeat:
HE KNOWS THE WORD “BROMANCE”
he doesn’t have experience with his OWN emotions and recognizing his apparent empathy could be a bit startling to him, but he knows generally how human people talk, and he himself is just very very blunt, like how humans can be get-to-the-point blunt.
BUT HEY THIS IS JUST MY OPINION. I’m not trying to criticize anyone’s work, you can characterize however you want. And broad characterization is even more valid when it comes to dbh and it’s playable characters. I just wonder if anyone else sees what I see
He’s one of those people who’s great at reading others and terrible at reading himself. And in either respect, he strikes me as more re-active than pro-active, though that could vary depending on how well he already knows the person.
Also, the man has various databases at his disposal. What makes people think he couldn’t instantly look up the definition and common usage of any unfamiliar word or turn of phrase? It’d take a few milliseconds at most.
