So a lot of people – even decades out of school – still have variations on the Test I Didn’t Study For dream. I wonder whether that’s a… dream ecological niche that was filled by something else before compulsory formal education?

“There I am, trying to stampede the herd, and I realise I forgot to dig the pit!”

“I’m collecting roots, and I’ve left my basket at home. So I’m looking for some reeds to weave one real quick, and I can’t find any, and my arms are just full of roots that I keep dropping…”

Show up at the harvest and realize you forgot to plant anything…

trying to prove i can knap flint to my prospective mate but forgot to bring the flint…. just sitting there banging chunks of granite together like an idiot… whole tribe laughs at me…….

see insofar as i can tell that dream is actually a result of the insane stress of the educational system and the way that fears and beliefs are formed and reinforced as a child/teenager

that said

this post is fucking hysterical, and i bet politicians and/or priests/ministers/etc get dreams where they forgot to prepare their speeches and have to wing the whole thing.

I’m 42 years old, and I *still* have that damn dream.  Honestly, I find it infinitely preferable to the “OH GOD WHERE IS MY KID DID I FORGET HIM SOMEWHERE” dreams, which SUCK and are much harder to shake off.
